 Comment of the week: keep the hybrids quiet
 

Personally I'm of a mind that we have far too much noise in our environment, and any mandate for more is a step in the wrong direction. I'm probably as guilty as the next person of relying too heavily on audible cues, but we simply need to change our habits.

As a cyclist, I frequently find myself having to issue warnings to crossing pedestrians who fail to look. I am willing to do this. Vehicle operators and pedestrians alike have a responsibility to exercise reasonable care in avoiding accidents (even though it's usually the pedestrian who ends up on the losing end).
