Why a dumb TV is better than a 'smart' one

I want my dumb TV
We've reviewed plenty of smart TVs here at CNET, but of the hundreds of apps available, we only actually use a handful. Regardless of this, smart TV is seen as a "step-up" feature found only in the mid- to high-end models. But we crave picture quality above all else, so why don't companies offer the option of a high-end "monitor"-type TV without all that stuff we'll never use? Especially when a Roku box, should we want those features, only costs $50.
