How to Participate in openSUSE

Whether you're an experienced Linux developer or an end user just getting started with Linux, there are many ways for you to participate in the openSUSE project. Join a forum to get help or help others with SUSE Linux, find and report bugs, review the documentation, send your wish list for new packages and features, create and submit patches, or find other creative ways to contribute. Whatever you do, take a few minutes to discuss openSUSE with other users and become an active member of the openSUSE communities.

Partner Linux Driver Process

The new Partner Linux Driver Process (PLDP) developed by Novell allows hardware and software vendors to provide Linux drivers and driver updates to their customers in a direct and transparent way that is completely integrated with the SUSE Linux Enterprise environment.

The best place for partners to develop kernel drivers is upstream in the kernel.org source tree, where kernel driver code benefits from thorough review and community involvement. As an active member of the open source community, Novell promotes having all Linux device drivers be a part of the official kernel.org source tree.

However, some drivers are not officially accepted by the kernel community yet or they might be accepted but only available in a kernel version that is beyond a specific kernel release of SUSE Linux Enterprise based products. In such cases, the Partner Linux Driver Process enables software and hardware partners to easily provide customers with drivers in a timely, supportable, certifiable and accessible manner.
