1. Kaspersky Lab Maintenance Pack For Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 Defeats Latest Spamming Techniques

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, has released Maintenance Pack 1 for Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0, a system for filtering unwanted mail. Anti-Spam 3.0.255.0 Maintenance Pack 1 includes improved methods for thwarting the latest techniques used by spammers to evade traditional spam filters, such as graphical and image-based spam.

Kaspersky Anti-Spam is a powerful tool for combating spam based on a multi-tier email filtration system. The unique technology of email linguistic analysis enables the system to automatically analyze message text and filter unwanted emails. Kaspersky Anti-Spam is also the only anti-spam system that fully supports linguistic analysis of spam in Russian.

Maintenance Pack 1 adds two new technologies to the filtration engine:

1. The GSG-A technology easily identifies animated images in the bulk of messages with image attachments, and detects meaningful frames that contain text or images. Frames that are empty or contain noise and are used by spammers for spam filter evasion are also identified.

2. The GSG-7 technology identifies images that contain text, which can then be matched with known spam text signatures even if the text has been modified, rotated, made 'noisy' or subjected to other spammer tricks.

Maintenance Pack 1 also includes an extended data transfer protocol that supports repeating requests in order to rule out accidental loss of packets between Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 MP1 and UDS servers (which receive information about spam mailings in real time). The module providing integration of Kaspersky Anti-Spam with Qmail mail servers has been optimized.

The distribution package of the product can be downloaded on the Anti-Spam 3.0 product updates page.
