Will people care about a universal Smart TV interface? LG and Philips have announced a universal Smart TV interface as a Google TV competitor designed to make it easier for customers to buy and transfer apps, and for developers to create them. The Smart TV Alliance will make the universal tools available for free on its Web site by the end of 2012, but they may miss the boat for inclusion on 2013 models. The alliance says it has Japanese manufacturers on board as well, though nothing has been officially announced. But is a universal Smart TV interface likely to spur consumer interest?
