30 DAYS. 50 PEOPLE. 120,000 SPAM EMAILS.
S.P.A.M: Spammed. Persistently. All. Month.
In May 2008, 50 individuals around the world embarked upon The McAfee S.P.A.M. Experiment. McAfee armed these brave volunteers with new laptops and email addresses then invited them to surf the web unprotected for 30 days to discover how much spam they would attract and what the effects would be, both short lived and long term.

Each day, these intrepid participants opened their email with no idea of what they would encounter and then they recorded their experiences.

How much did they get spammed and how drastic were the effects? Check out The S.P.A.M. Experiment report (PDF) here: www.mcafee.com/advice

So clearly if you didn’t keep your guard up in the lazy days of summer, you might be experiencing a spam-filled inbox box now. We recommend the following tips to avoid future “spam-a-lot” frustration:

Don't publish your email address on any website or discussion forum

Use a separate email address to sign up for newsletters, online postings and trade shows. If your mailbox starts receiving an abundance of spam, you can delete the mailbox or filter it more aggressively

If you didn't originally sign up to receive an email, or if you don't recognize the sender, do not unsubscribe from the list. By unsubscribing, you show the spammer that your email address is active

If you use web-based email services, report spam to the service provider. This helps the provider more accurately determine which messages are spam

Use anti-spam software, which blocks 97 percent to 99 percent of spam to significantly reduce the spam in your inbox. (McAfee VirusScan® Plus, McAfee Internet Security Suite and McAfee Total Protection all have anti-spam technology.)

Keep a collection of mail you want to stop receiving and determine which email addresses or phrases in the messages don't change. Use this information to keep further unwanted email out of your inbox by creating filters using your McAfee software.

Do not reply to spam and, most importantly, don't buy anything from spammers. If you want to test how spam savvy you are, take the McAfee SiteAdvisor Spam quiz.
McAfee Launches “Forward Responsibly” Campaign to Stamp Out Fram
FRAM IS SO ANNOYING
What is fram?

Fram is spam that is forwarded to you by a family member, friend or colleague that is cutesy, dopey, sappy, rarely really funny, interesting or “awesome.”

Why is fram a problem?

Fram is rarely appreciated and only serves to take up time to handle and takes up space within an individual’s email box. In a worse case scenario, forwarded spam may contain viruses, spyware or some other form of malware.

How can McAfee help you control fram?

You can visit our “Forward Responsibly” web site to learn how to get people in your personal network to stop framming you: www.mcafee.com/fram
