Postbank Selects Novell for IT Infrastructure, Collaboration and Management Solutions

Novell Open Enterprise Server, GroupWise and ZENworks replace Windows 2000 Server, Exchange and CA Unicenter

HANNOVER, Germany (CeBIT 2007) -- March 15, 2007 -- Novell today announced that Deutsche Postbank AG, one of Germany's largest retail banks, is migrating all of the desktop-related IT systems within subsidiary BHW Holding AG to Novell(R) products and solutions, including groupware, desktop management, software distribution, identity management and file systems. BHW, which provides home financing and saving services for private clients, is also based in Germany and was acquired by Postbank in 2006.

Postbank will replace all of BHW Holding's Microsoft* Windows* 2000 servers with Novell Open Enterprise Server in 2007. In addition, 3,500 BHW office staff and 4,500 field staff will switch to Novell GroupWise(R) from Microsoft Exchange, joining 9,000 Postbank employees who are using GroupWise for secure e-mail and collaboration. Novell ZENworks(R) will also take over desktop management for BHW office staff, replacing CA* Unicenter*. Novell Consulting(R) will support Postbank through the entire migration.

"We have been working with Novell products and solutions for more than a decade, and we are delighted to extend this relationship to the BHW IT infrastructure," said Juergen Barthel, project manager at Postbank. "With Open Enterprise Server, ZENworks and GroupWise, we will continue to benefit from the higher performance, security and reliability inherent in Novell offerings, even while reducing costs."

Novell Open Enterprise Server includes both NetWare(R), the long-standing leader of secure networking services, and SUSE(R) Linux Enterprise Server, an award-winning open-source server for delivering business-level applications. Novell GroupWise is a complete collaboration software solution that provides information workers with e-mail, calendaring, instant messaging, task management, and contact and document management functions. Novell ZENworks Desktop Management reduces the total cost of ownership of Windows desktops and laptops, letting administrators automatically and transparently configure, update and troubleshoot workstations from wherever they are – inside or outside the firewall – without having to visit each device.

Kent Erickson, vice president and general manager of Workgroup Solutions for Novell, said, "Novell's priority is to help Postbank and BHW gain maximum return on their IT investment. Their customers have high expectations of service, and with our help Postbank and BHW will continue to provide top financial services and distinguish themselves in a very competitive market."
