WALTHAM, Mass. -- Oct. 17, 2006 -- Novell today promoted Tom Francese, president of Novell(R) EMEA, to the position of executive vice president for worldwide sales. Francese, a proven industry veteran who joined Novell in Oct. 2005 after serving as vice president of IBM's software business in Europe, will assume responsibilities for Novell sales, channel and alliances activities around the globe. He will continue to serve as president of Novell EMEA.

"Few executives in the software industry can match Tom in experience, results, and leadership," said Ron Hovsepain, president and CEO of Novell. "Tom's done a great job in getting our business in EMEA back on a growth track, and he's got the vision and skills to drive similar results for us globally. Tom's deep background in the partnering world will help us further grow the partner ecosystem around Novell's Linux* and IT management offerings, a critical factor for our future success."

Francese brings more than 30 years of technology industry experience to his new role. A long-time IBM veteran, Francese held positions in sales, sales management and operations, including vice president, Software Group Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa, vice president, central region in the Americas, vice president, Tivoli Worldwide Financial Services Industry Sales, vice president, Worldwide Sales and Support, Networking Computing Software, and director of Enterprise Sales, London. Francese's career started with IBM in 1974 as a sales account manager in Houston, Texas.

"Novell is at a tremendously exciting time in its storied history, as we move aggressively to stake out a leadership position in the rapidly growing Linux and security, identity and systems management markets," said Francese. "We're focused on the right markets, and we have the right technologies, the right vision and strategy, and, most importantly, the right people to execute on our strategy. I'm looking forward to driving sales execution in our key markets around the globe, and working with partners to reach an even broader market for Novell's solutions."

Novell First to Integrate All Aspects of Access Management with the Release of Novell Access Manager 3

Novell First to Integrate All Aspects of Access Management with the Release of Novell Access Manager 3

Single solution provides organizations seamless, secure access across extended enterprise of customers, partners and employees

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Oct. 16, 2006 -- Novell today announced the worldwide availability of Novell(R) Access Manager 3, its next-generation access management solution. Novell Access Manager 3 is a single access management solution that protects both Web and enterprise applications and helps organizations enhance user productivity, streamline administration, increase security, and ensure compliance.

"Organizations can improve security, simplify the user experience, and relieve administrative burden with Web access management (WAM) systems," noted Mark Diodati, identity and privacy analyst with the Burton Group.  "WAM systems are all but essential for organizations with high value, heterogeneous Web applications and Web single sign-on needs."

Novell Access Manager 3 provides a single solution for enterprise security and access control that combines Web single sign-on and seamless remote access. This release now fully integrates standards-based identity federation, enabling customers to securely share identity information across organizational and technical boundaries. Moreover, Novell Access Manager 3 features an innovative approach to simplify federation deployments by dynamically translating between identity federation standards, including Liberty Alliance and Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML). Novell Access Manager 3 also features an integrated, clientless Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSLVPN) to enable seamless access control and role-based authorization to back-end applications. It also incorporates enhancements for multi-factor authentication, data encryption, fine-grained access, role-based access control and scalable enforcement of enterprise-wide access polices.

Novell Access Manager 3 is designed to work seamlessly with a customer's existing IT environment. It has been enhanced to include native support for a broad range of platforms and directory services to provide a single, centralized and secure access management solution for the enterprise. It features the following benefits:

- Accessibility without vulnerability – grant secure, hassle-free access to Web and enterprise applications based on the user's role within a company or their association to it.

- Regulatory Compliance – generate reports that detail access events across the network, such as who authenticated to a particular resource and when the resource was accessed.

- Centralized Administration – eliminate the need for multiple, disparate administration tools and reduce the time and cost associated with managing user access.

- Simplified identity federation and federated provisioning – leverage leading industry standards, including SAML and Liberty Alliance protocols, to securely share identity information across traditional security boundaries and enable applications for federation without modifying content or installing additional software on the Web server.

"We salute Novell for releasing a product that helps advance open federation and Web services based on Liberty’s secure and privacy-respecting identity standards," said George Goodman president of the Liberty Alliance management board and director of the platform capabilities lab at Intel. "Liberty-based products are helping to build a more trusted Internet for consumers, citizens, governments and businesses worldwide."

"A comprehensive approach to access management is a must for any organization that faces regulatory or corporate governance challenges," said Kent Erickson, vice president and general manager for identity and security management at Novell. "With Novell Access Manager 3, you can not only deliver stronger security controls, including for the partners and customers that make up your extended enterprise, but also simplify access and improve productivity while saving time and money."

Novell Access Manager is a flagship product within Novell's award-winning identity and security management product line. It provides the Web access management complement to Novell Identity Manager and the company's market-leading security information and event management solution, SentinelTM from Novell. More information on Novell's solutions for security and identity can be found at http://www.novell.com/solutions/securityandidentity.
